Welcome to Dramatherapy Scotland’s 7th Newsletter issue! And a special welcome to our new Dramatherapy Scotland members - one of whom is a founder member of DTS,
Colin White!! This month we look back at the BADTh AGM and Conference in Derry, Northern Ireland and the issues that arose from the Celtic Debate carried out by DTS in its usual inimitable style! As always, you will find

Weaving the Threads
BADTh AGM and Conference, Derry, Northern Ireland, 2002

This year Dramatherapy Scotland travelled to Derry,
Northern Ireland to support its Celtic neighbours in
holding the latest BADTh Annual Conference and
AGM. And what a warm welcome we received!

Kicking off the conference were the dulcit tones of
Augusto Boal in his keynote speech. During this he
recalled stories of his early forays into the Theatre of
the Oppressed and set the scene for his workshops
which delve into the use of therapeutic drama and
theatre. During Boal’s workshops, I was struck by how
the simplicity of a lot of Boal’s techniques actually
conceals the complexity of the cognitive and affective
processes behind them. For example, taking apart his
Analytical Image work, the stages of progression are
very obvious in terms of development and yet the
discussion and action that occured as a result of the
technique offered a great depth of insight. So, a well

deserved pat on the back for Boal! Whilst Boal did appear the main attraction, there were a number of other workshops and presentations on offer during the weekend, not least of which was Dramatherapy Scotland’s very own ‘Celtic Debate’. Despite a small attendance, the debate itself proved to be a ........(cont. page 2)
