SDS February Training Day |
Dundee Rep. Theatre |
February 19th saw the return of James King to Dundee |
along with his theatre group ‘Bag-a-Trix’ for the SDS |
In-Service day entitled ‘Spirit Levelling’. The day was |
facilitated by 2 dramatherapists - Genevieve Smyth |
based at the Rep and John Lyons based in an NHS |
Trust in Hull. They took participants on an experiential |
journey through a Dramatherapy Service model, bring- |
ing to light the need to focus on the service user as well |
as balancing resources from the service provider’s point |
of view. Collaboration was the key word and this was |
echoed in James King’s group’s performance at night to |
an audience of mental health users and providers who |
were able to see their frustrations and determination |
explored through a series of improvisations. Overall, it |
was a cognitive as well as sensory experience which |
led participants to a closer examination of their practice. |
