SDS February Training Day

Dundee Rep. Theatre

February 19th saw the return of James King to Dundee
along with his theatre group ‘Bag-a-Trix’ for the SDS
In-Service day entitled ‘Spirit Levelling’. The day was
facilitated by 2 dramatherapists - Genevieve Smyth
based at the Rep and John Lyons based in an NHS
Trust in Hull. They took participants on an experiential
journey through a Dramatherapy Service model, bring-
ing to light the need to focus on the service user as well
as balancing resources from the service provider’s point
of view. Collaboration was the key word and this was
echoed in James King’s group’s performance at night to
an audience of mental health users and providers who
were able to see their frustrations and determination
explored through a series of improvisations. Overall, it
was a cognitive as well as sensory experience which
led participants to a closer examination of their practice.
